Garden Decoration Idea - Ilustration

Garden Decoration Idea - Ilustration

Garden decorations can enhance the beauty of the plants in your garden. The accents you choose give your garden its style and identity. Garden decorations can be used to draw visitors to your garden, to call attention to specific aspects of the garden, or to liven up uninteresting areas.

Choosing Garden Decorations

You can approach garden decorating the same way you would interior decorating. Start by identifying the mood or theme. Will it be formal or casual, traditional or unique? What is the predominating color scheme in the garden? The decorations you choose might be used to infuse your garden with a sense history, mystery, wildness, or whimsy.

When choosing garden decorations, let your imagination be your guide. Typical garden decorations include urns, flags, gnomes, fountains, and even bird feeders. But you can decorate your garden with anything that strikes your fancy-an old bicycle, antique garden tools, a favorite rock, a hand-made mosaic, or even an outdoor fireplace. Let your garden reflect your personality.

Most garden decorations are easily moved. So you can try them out in different sites before you find the perfect spot. You can rearrange your treasures as you acquire new ones. And you can display different decorations depending on the season.

Container Gardening

Garden decoration can be as simple as a well-placed pot. Depending on your garden, containers might be classic urns, rustic tubs, wicker baskets, or clean-lined modern pots. Maybe your garden calls for an eclectic mix of all sorts of styles. An attractive container garden depends not only on having the right pot, but also on choosing the right plants to put in it and the right spot to showcase it. Containers can be moved around depending on which area of the garden lacks interest at the moment.

Drawing Attention

Strong garden accents such as statues, urns, and obelisks can be used to draw the eye along a path, visually lengthening the space. This is a valuable technique for making small gardens seem larger and for creating an interesting view where there's not one.

The garden can be a great place to showcase meaningful works of art. Sculptures made of metal, wood, stone, and other natural materials look at home in the garden. Some people even transform trash or other found objects into interesting and folksy garden art.

The Exsterior Design - Asla's 2011 Best Residential Landscapes : part 2

The Exsterior Design - Asla's 2011 Best Residential Landscapes : part 2

Each year, the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) awards professional awards to the year's best residential landscape designs. We have all eight winners from this year's competition, with entries ranging from a renovation of Philip Johnson's Beck House in Dallas (shown above) to a cascade of terraces for a New York City apartment.

ASLA Award Winner Salame Residence by Reed Hilderbrand Dallas   Philip Johnson's monumental 1964 Beck House was conceived as a theatrical viewing platform for the surrounding landscape—a motive pursued more simply and elegantly in Johnson's own Glass House fifteen years earlier. The Beck House renovation, completed in 2009, critically revises this modernist paradigm. By deftly altering Johnson's conceptual break-line between building and landscape, the project demonstrates landscape architecture's capacity to integrate the conservation of the material legacy of a project with direct engagement of the visual, spatial, ecological, and domestic characteristics of the site.

We have all eight winners from this year's competition, with entries ranging from a renovation of Philip Johnson's Beck House in Dallas (shown above) to a cascade of terraces for a New York City apartment.

Situated on a suburban street, the Peninsula Residence aims to create an alternative model for the standard front yard—one that is appropriate to neighborhood and the Northern California climate. The landscape design re-imagines a previously neglected slope to implement sustainable materials and an interconnected spatial relationship between public and private zones. This project exemplifies how the innovative reconfiguration of an entry can create a place that engages a home, a street, and the senses.

gardening design garden ~ Beauty With Bounty At RHS Chelsea

Beauty With Bounty At RHS Chelsea

The 2011 M&G Garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show is a modern take on a traditional kitchen garden, designed by renowned landscape architect Bunny Guinness. The title sponsor’s garden is one that you can both live from and live with – a modern take on a traditional kitchen garden – a beautiful, relaxing space and also a working plot producing bountiful fruit, herbs, vegetables and flowers.

This year, elements of the garden will be donated after the show – the fruit and veg to The Royal Hospital Chelsea, and raised beds and a selection of flowers to the RHS Campaign for School Gardening, who will be re-homing the plants in a new Community Garden at Christ Church CofE Primary School in South London.

The M&G Garden features raised beds built from willow and topped with cedar coping, which are planted with vegetables and flowers. Cabbages and beans mingle with clematis and roses, whilst lavender and other herbs provide fragrance. Large terracotta pots containing fruit trees are placed throughout the garden.

Traditional in spirit, the garden also embraces innovative features including an elegant glass platform. This ‘floating’ deck offers a different viewing dimension on to the garden’s near symmetrical paths and beds. It also provides a light, sheltered place for people and plants below.

The design is framed by a series of pleached trees, standing nearly three metres tall, which are trained against wires and ironwork that echo the balustrade design. This is a garden which demonstrates how a traditional approach can stand the test of time, particularly when updated for a modern world.

garden for Landscape Plan Specifically for the Shade

garden for Landscape Plan Specifically for the Shade

To plant successfully in shady areas, you need a landscape plan tailored accordingly. You need to follow a shade landscape plan and make your plant selections fit the environmental conditions in your planting bed. Planning before planting is the hallmark of effective landscape design.

Plant failure in landscaping is often due to a plant's being situated somewhere in the yard where it doesn't belong. We fall in love with a plant at the nursery and buy it, without thinking in terms of the plant's sunlight requirements -- and whether or not we can meet those requirements in our yards. After bringing the plant home, we plant it where there's space available, rather than in a spot conducive to the plant's health.

Don't try to force a square peg into a round hole: select shade-tolerant plants for shady areas!

The picture of a landscape plan above provides an example of such a plant selection for shady areas. The plants are "layered," with the tallest being placed up against the backdrop of the fence, furthest from the viewer's eye; while the shortest plants are closest to the viewer, with the mid-sized plants in between.
